How this tool works
Lounge access is a bet on your own travel frequency, and the break-even is usually higher than it feels. We price the same year three ways.
- Pay at the door — no membership, roughly $50 a visit where a lounge sells entry at all. The baseline everything else has to beat.
- A Priority Pass membership — $99 with every visit charged, $329 with ten visits included, or $469 for unlimited visits for the member. All three are compared, and the cheapest is the one recommended.
- Guests — the cost people forget. Even on the unlimited tier, guests are charged around $35 each, every visit. A family of four does not get four unlimited memberships for $469; it gets one, plus three guest charges each time.
Why we do not simply recommend a premium card. Card lounge access has tightened sharply. The Amex Platinum charges $895 a year and, since 1 February 2025, caps Delta Sky Club visits at ten a year — unlimited access needs $75,000 of spend on the card. A card can still be the right answer if you value its other benefits, but treating it as a cheap route to lounges no longer holds.
The “what a visit is worth to you” figure is deliberately yours to set. A lounge is worth a great deal on a five-hour connection and almost nothing on a 40-minute turnaround, and no calculator can know which you have.

Is Priority Pass worth it?
It depends almost entirely on visits per year and whether you bring guests. Prestige at $469 covers unlimited visits for you, so it pays for itself somewhere around thirteen or fourteen visits at a $35 walk-up rate — but guests are charged every time, which pushes the break-even much higher for couples and families. This calculator does that arithmetic with your numbers.
How many lounge visits before a membership pays off?
Roughly: the $99 tier saves nothing on visit price, so it only helps if your lounges charge more than the member rate. The $329 tier includes ten visits, so it beats paying at the door once you are near that. The $469 unlimited tier needs about thirteen to fourteen solo visits a year. Guests change all of it.
Does the Amex Platinum give unlimited lounge access?
Not to Delta Sky Clubs. Since 1 February 2025 Platinum cardholders get ten Sky Club visits a year, and unlimited access requires $75,000 of spend on the card in a calendar year. Additional visits are $50 each. Priority Pass Select and Centurion Lounge access come with the card, which carries an $895 annual fee.
Can I bring guests into a lounge?
Usually, but rarely free. Guest entry is typically around $35 per person per visit even on memberships that give the member unlimited access. It is the single biggest reason lounge maths goes wrong for couples and families.
Can I just pay at the door?
Often yes, and for infrequent flyers it is the right answer. Expect roughly $50 a visit. Some lounges — Delta Sky Club among them — have restricted or stopped selling day passes to non-members, so it is worth checking before relying on it.
Is a lounge worth it on a short layover?
Rarely. With under about ninety minutes between flights, boarding time and the walk to the gate eat most of the visit. The value is concentrated in long connections, delays and early-morning departures — which is why this tool asks what a visit is worth to you rather than assuming.
